Methodology

Ten categories. One hundred factors. No opinions.

Every category carries exactly 10% of the overall score, and every factor inside it carries a fixed importance weight from 1 to 5. Those weights are frozen. The same FDD graded twice produces the same result, because evidence is extracted, a stored rulebook assigns the grade, and the database does the arithmetic.

Financial Opportunity rests almost entirely on Item 19, which is the one Item a franchisor may omit entirely. When it is present we read what it covers, whose results it describes, and what it explicitly excludes. Revenue is read in whatever form the Item gives it: an average or a median, quartiles or halves, units listed one by one, a single outlet's statement, net revenue, territory revenue or revenue per franchisee business. Revenue is undisclosed only where Item 19 gives no historical revenue for any identifiable operating outlet; a single founder-operated or company-owned location counts, and the report says how many locations a figure represents and whose they are, separately from whether it was disclosed. Every figure is named for what it is.

A large gross-sales figure is not profit. Many Item 19s state in terms that they disclose no cost, expense or profit information, and we report that rather than letting the headline number stand in for owner earnings.

Beside the ten factors, the report shows how much of the franchised system Item 19 covers and in what form — whether it gives both an average and a median, whether it shows the spread across units, and whether any cost or profit figure sits beside the revenue — as a reading of the disclosure. It is information, not one of the scoring parameters, and a franchisor who discloses nothing loses coverage on the factors, never points.

Item 19 is the only Item a franchisor may leave out entirely. When it is absent, these factors are marked N/A and our confidence falls — the franchise is not marked down for it. An absent Item 19 is missing information, not evidence of weak performance.

Anatomy of a finding

Five parts, every time

Score

A grade from 1 to 5, normalised to a 0–100 scale. Never a 0, and never a neutral middle value standing in for missing information.

Finding

What the FDD actually discloses, with the figures it stated.

Why it matters

What that disclosure means for the person who signs the agreement.

Source

The FDD Item and page range the finding came from, so you can read it yourself.

Confidence

How complete, authoritative and specific the underlying evidence is — reported separately from the score, never blended into it.

Beyond the document

What the FDD cannot tell you

The free QuickScore is FDD-only, by design. Demand, competitive position and reputation in your specific market are not in the document, and the free report says so rather than guessing.

The Full FDD Evaluation adds controlled external research against approved source classes. No single review, social post or press release determines a grade, and stronger contractual evidence is never overwritten by weaker external evidence.
